Benthic Table
Waste:
Build up on the benthic table
below fish cages can create an environmental issue in some
areas. In the past the solution to benthic waste has been
chemical or mechanical in nature. The Geotube®
solution
has proven to dewater benthic table waste very effectively,
providing excellent water clarity and nutrient removal.
Dewatering time with the Geotube®
container
is very fast.
Benthic table waste is handled
similarly to cage waste. A trash or sludge pump was used to
extract the benthic deposit and load it to a floating
containment tank that when full is transferred to shore.
Once the tank is filled it will pump the waste to shore or
return to shore where the benthic waste is pumped from the
containment tank into the Geotube®
container.
The benthic waste is then mixed with a polymer to flocculate
(separate the solids from the liquids) the waste, then
pumped into the Geotube®
container.
The effluent or filtrate, siphoning through the
Geotube®
container is returned to
the ocean with 95% solids, 90+% phosphorous and 70+%
nitrogen removed. The valuable nutrients are retained by the
Geotube®
container. |
